Quantitative Betting Calculator
Hedge Betting Calculator
A hedge calculator tells you how much to bet on the opposite side of a wager to lock in a profit or cut a loss - most often when a parlay is down to its last leg or a futures ticket is in the money. Enter your original stake and odds plus the current hedge odds, and it returns the hedge stake and your guaranteed outcome.
Size an opposing wager to lock in an equal profit (or minimize loss) regardless of which side wins — ideal for futures tickets, live games, or final parlay legs.
How the hedge calculator works
Enter your original bet
Your initial stake and the odds you took. The calculator works out your potential return if that bet wins.
Enter the hedge odds
The current price on the opposite outcome. It computes the stake needed there so both sides return a similar amount.
Lock in the result
Placing the hedge guarantees a profit (if you're hedging a winning position) or caps your loss, removing the variance of letting it ride.
Hedge stake formula
Hedge stake = (original stake × original decimal odds) ÷ hedge decimal odds. This makes the hedge's return match your original bet's potential payout, guaranteeing the outcome.
Example — You hold a $100 futures ticket at +900 (returns $1,000). The other side is now available at +150 (decimal 2.5). Hedging $400 there guarantees $1,000 total return either way ($500 total staked across both bets) - locking in an exact $500.00 net profit.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does hedging a bet mean?
Hedging means placing a second bet on the opposite outcome of a wager you already have, so you guarantee a profit or limit a loss regardless of the result. It trades maximum upside for certainty.
When should you hedge a bet?
Common times are the final leg of a big parlay, an in-the-money futures ticket, or a live line that has moved heavily in your favor. Hedging makes most sense when locking in a sure profit beats the risk of losing it all.
Do you lose money by hedging?
Hedging usually lowers your maximum payout in exchange for certainty. Done at good odds it still guarantees a profit; done at poor odds it can guarantee a small loss, so the hedge price matters.
How do you hedge a parlay?
When your parlay reaches its last leg, bet the opposite side of that final leg for the stake this calculator returns. You collect a guaranteed amount whether the leg hits or not.
